Summary

This is a 10 week course for beginners to learn Adobe Flash for animation, Web design & games.

What are the Course Aims?

The course is for anyone who wants to learn the basics of Flash using Windows or Mac computers.

Where can it lead to?

Flash is the industry standard, ideal for anyone wanting to gain employment or design professional sites.

What will I study on this course?

This beginners/intermediate course will introduce the core tools in Flash, including:

Learning to use the various drawing tools including the pen to draw vector paths.

Animating on the timeline: frame-by-frame; shape tweens and motion tweens to morph objects and type.

Using layers for more complex animation. Guide layers for your animated objects to follow...

Preparing png and jpeg images in Photoshop, importing them for a photo gallery or image-based animation

Importing sound and adding it to the library and animation timeline.

Animating a banner or button for a Website. Exporting as swf, animated gif and AVI/QuickTime movies.

Adding animations to your site or uploading to Newgrounds and YouTube. Copyright issues.

(Intermediate/advanced course will look at pre-loaders, filters, masks, components, building Flash Websites, Flash flv video, games design and actionscript)

Are there any resources or materials required?

The software is installed on the college computers. For students wishing to do additional work from home free 30 day trials are available from Adobe. Student rates for the software are available and will be discussed on the course.

Are there any other costs?

Free basic Web hosting will be provided for the duration of the course together with advice on purchasing a domain name (.coms and .co.uk are about £6 per year) and ongoing hosting (from free to expensive).

How will I be assessed?

No formal assessment. Help during the sessions & via email support. Totton College course completion certificate.

What are the entry requirements?

No previous experience required but some content may be challenging as the software is for professional-level use.
